Frame Conservation & Repair

Whether it is just a few chips and cracks or a picture frame with extensive losses we can repair the damage and preserve the frame.

We cast from the existing parts or recreate by hand carving to replace what is missing. Structural damage is repaired, and substrates stabilized. Repairs are finished to match and blend with the existing patina. Steps are taken to maintain the original intention of the frame relative to its age.

American Oval Repair

This antique frame had severe damage in two corners plus additional small losses and cracks.

Louis XV Repair

Cracked corners and minor chips were filled in and finished to blend on this cast reproduction frame.

Mirror repair (upper corner)

Breaks were joined and filled. The repair was gilded with 22kt gold and patina was added to blend with original finish

Mirror repair (lower corner)

Losses were replaced and the severely abraded surface was regilded. New gilding was toned to blend with the existing finish.

Corner replacement

The missing corner was cast from a stable corner, inserted and gilded to match the rest of the frame.

Oval Mirror

This frame had extensive losses and unstable gesso along the top edge. Missing parts were replaced, gilded and patina added to maintain the original finish.
